Commentaries

Quite frankly, I am downloading everything that looked interesting from Textweek.  I am reading it all and letting it ferment as I ponder.  I also have a goal with this sermon, as it is my first real sermon, to try and apply the prinicples I learned last semester from Long and Craddock.

It so far has been fascinating.  I have the text from Genesis on original sin - or is it original sin (Gen: 3).  I can see different threads.  I am finding it important to know the source I have downloaded from - what will there base theology be?  Is this something I agree with at this point in my seminary journey.

However, at this point in my fledgling sermon writing, I do need to concentrate on the Gospel. With that understanding though, I really enjoyed O.T. last semester so when Jesus is quoting in the Matt text from the book of Deut, I am also finding this intriguing (to build on last semester).  So in the commentaries, I am consciously  looking for this.

I am also looking for in my internet resources, what can I display visually.  I am finding images of the 3 temptations, so that is adding to the mix.  Perhaps I do need to concentrate on that aspect of the Gospel story.

Also, I am still trying to understand why and what it means for us that Jesus was tempted. I am also looking for that in the sources I have downloaded.

Any feedback is welcome.  Thanks!
